These boots are made for... snuggling!

Hello everyone! Sorry I'm a bit late this week - I was hoping to blog last night but me and Sophie were NOT getting along, and I wanted to show you all how this week's part of the CAL looks :)

First up though, I have been having loads of fun recently making Crocodile Stitch Booties! Using this fabulous set of patterns from Bonita Designs, I've made baby ones in Stylecraft Special DK Citron:

Child ones with a Stylecraft Special DK Lavender sole and Moda Vera Fayette Jewel Mix tops:

And adult ones with a Moda Vera Marvel Green sole and Moda Vera Fayette Frenzy tops!

It is a fantastic pattern - very easy to follow and well explained for uneducated people like me who have never done crocodile stitch or rib stitch before - I highly recommend it. And, so cute!

I particularly had fun at Mum's house on Sunday, shopping in her button collection :) Do you think these were good choices?

The baby ones don't have buttons yet. I need to either figure out how to crochet buttons that are the right size and work well, or maybe get some velcro? What do you think?

And here is my Sophie's Universe progress! It took me much longer than it should have to do the last 10 rows, but I kept reading the pattern wrong and miscounting and discovering mistakes in previous rows... Sophie didn't quite go over the balcony, but it was a near thing a few times. I love the colours though!!

Here's hoping I have better luck with next week's part 5 :)

EDITED TO ADD: Here is my sister's start on the Sophie's Universe CAL - I love how the different colour scheme gives a totally different effect!! She was inspired by the Attic24 Cottage pack in choosing her colours.

  1. Very cute boots! I had already seen that pattern and been wanting to use it for quite some time, just can't seem to find the right wool... I love the buttons you chose, too, so colorful!
And the mandala turned out amazing, though I don't know if I'd have the patience to see through it, looks quite complicated... ; )
Wish you a lovely day! xx

    1. I think you could use pretty much any DK or worsted weight yarn, Valentina :) I'm busy sorting through my stash to find the right yarn to make a pair for myself - they are so warm and comfortable to wear (I did sneakily try the adult ones on, even though they aren't for me).

I would never have bothered with Sophie's Garden if it hadn't been structured as a CAL. Only 5-10 rows per week is achievable for me, without getting too bored or frustrated with it. I'm learning so many new stitches and dreaming about different colour combinations for the next one! If you're interested, Parts 1-3 of the CAL make Sophie's Mandala, and adding Part 4 (where I'm up to) makes Sophie's Garden - it's after this part that it grows into the universe :)

  2. I love These boots. Got the pattern and will definitely make a pair for me. Maybe for my nieces, too. Just got to find out what sizes they have. :)

  4. Your boots are cute! I have never worked crocodile stitch before although it is on my list of stitches I should get around to practicing (along with bullions and solomon knots). The colour changes in the Fayette are perfect for your crocodile stitches. I love it when that happens!
I am glad you persisted with Sophie's Universe. Stunning. What will you do with it now you are done?

    1. The crocodile stitch was surprisingly simple, once I got the hang of the the front post stitches (which turned out to be useful skill for Sophie!).

I think the Sophie's Universe will be a lap blanket at the lake house along with the rainbow bargello :)

    1. I can absolutely recommend the pattern from Bonita Patterns - they had really good pictures of what each step should look like, which made all the difference for me in figuring out how to do it!

  7. The crocodile boots are amazing!! Love the vibrant colours in the adult boots. The buttons look great on there too. I wouldn't want velcro with yarn, wouldn't it just snag the yarn all the time? Your CAL is also a beauty. I'm seeing lots of these in blogland and they're just stunning.

    1. Thanks Wendy! That's a good point with the velcro, I hadn't thought of that. Glad I went with crochet buttons in the end!

    1. Thank you! The crocodile stitch seemed like something too difficult to even think about, but once I got the hang of it, it was quite straightforward! The colours are my favourite bit :D
