Lace Shawls - Pattern Roundup!

Hey everyone!

I've had cause recently to go drooling over Ravelry's extensive collection of lace-weight crochet shawls and... oh man, there are some beauties out there! I am going to need more lace weight yarn to make more of these.

I picked one to make for the Sydney Royal Easter Show this year, but I also wanted to share all the stunning shawls with you!! I hope you love them as much as I do :D

They are in no particular order, and all pictures are from the pattern pages and belong to their respective owners.

Prayer Shawls for my Dad

Hello from Germany,

those who follow us on Facebook or Instagram probably already read why I didn't blog for such a long time.

My dad died on the 29th of November. I am heartbroken and miss him so much. He was just 60 years old and the best dad I could ever wish for. Loving, caring and always there for us - I could always rely on him and I hope I can carry on his legacy of love and caring for the rest of my life.

Grief comes in waves these days. Some days, I am doing fine, other days everything brings me to tears. Right now, I have tears in my eyes again. I hope he is watching us from above and feels the love we all have for him.

We spent his last days at his bed side at home, something I am forever thankful for. During this time I had to keep my hands busy and decided to crochet some kind of prayer shawls.

I decided on the Elise Shawl pattern, a pattern I had in my to do list forever. So I got different sock weighted yarns from the LYS in my hometown and started crocheting. Three weeks after my dad's death, I already made several of these shawls and gave one as a gift already.

The pattern is quite addictive and it calms my mind, so I think I will make many more over the next weeks. I might block the shawls at some point but at the moment I don't have anything large enough to block them on yet. As I went down some hook sizes (4,5 mm instead of 5,5 mm), they are fine to wear without blocking as well though, so I am not too worried.

Hugs from Germany
Anne

Ta-dah! Sunday Poncho!

For such a long time I've been drooling over Alia Bland's Sunday Shawl pattern

But... I just can't wear shawls. They always fall off my shoulders, forwards backwards and sideways, and I spend my whole life rearranging the shawl that I'm wearing.

I decided that for our Great Ocean Road Trip (post and photos coming soon), I wanted to make something for myself, and what a great opportunity to convert this gorgeous shawl pattern into a poncho! I took advantage of the Drops sale and got a small mountain of Drops Cotton Merino, a beautiful DK yarn that is 50% cotton and 50% merino wool. So happy to find woollen yarn that doesn't make me itch like crazy! My excellent sister-in-law helped me to pick the colours :)

After discussions with my mother and my favourite crochet ladies on Facebook, I decided on a 3 corner poncho. There was much mathematics (even a pencil and paper came out at one point, and the printed pattern is all scribbled with little charts and counting numbers), much frogging (and a little bit of swearing), but finally it's done! All the details on the changes that I made to the pattern are on my Ravelry Project Page.

Ta-dah! My Sunday Poncho :D

It's so warm and snuggly, but not too warm, and is very comfortable to wear around the house and sitting in my crochet chair. I am wearing it right now!

And of course, if I was getting a poncho then Captain Poprocks needed one for himself :P

Little Tuesday Update!

Hello everyone! Welcome to all of our new readers, and hugs for old friends :)

Wow! The response to my Rainbow Twist and Turn Bargello Afghan has been phenomenal - 1300 views of the pattern, 280 favourites on Ravelry and two projects started already :D

Mine is all safely washed and dried and photographed and rolled up in plastic, ready for its next outing at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. I entered the Show for the first time this year, in 3 categories:

1. Adult Accessories - I'm going to submit a Road Trip Scarf to this category;

2. Soft Toys - A candy hippo, my favourite; and

3. Creative Crochet (Exhibitor's Own Design) - the Bargello Afghan.

Unfortunately I couldn't enter the afghan into the afghan category as that requires the blankets to be made from wool or wool blend, not 100% acrylic :( Oh well, now I know for next time!

There'll be a brand new afghan design coming soon - here is a sneak peek for you!

I've been stuck at home with terrible fatigue, bored off my nut for the last few days. I have been slowly getting through some scarves, and trying to clear my WIP pile so I can start new projects with a clear conscience.  Here are three more scarves, in some different yarn to my usual Moda Vera Fayette!

James C Brett - Woodlander (5)

King Cole Riot (414)

Yarn Bee Aurora Borealis (Fruit Punch)

As I am writing this, I have received some very bad news. Anne's grandfather passed away today at the grand age of 101. As you all know, Anne was very close to her grandfather, and he used the blanket that she made for him every day.

Please send her lots of love and hugs and support in this difficult time.

Triple Ta-Dah on Tuesday

Welcome to Triple Ta-Dah Tuesday! I have a few lovely things to share with you today, all finished and ready to unleash on the world :)

Crochet Between Worlds Facebook Page!

Crochet Between Worlds now has its own Facebook page!

Head over there and Like the page for notifications of new posts, plus teasers and tidbits that occur to us between posts, plus shares of beautiful and inspiring work from other crochet pages :)

Magnificent Mug Markers!

At our new house on Lake Macquarie, all the mugs will be the same...

We drink a lot of tea, and I figure there is going to be endless confusion if everyone has identical mugs! So, using some of my lovely Red Heart Miami cotton and a little bit of internet exploration, I made a set of mug markers :)

I was inspired by patterns I found online for the little motifs, but adapted them to make them a bit neater, a bit easier, or a bit more straightforward to add the loop. To each motif I added a loop of 30 chain stitches, to wrap around the mug handle. Plus, they are dishwasher safe if we forget to take them off!

The mug markers can also be used on stemmed wine glasses - a colourful, washable, practical way to keep track of whose is whose!

Cosmos Fields Shawl

Last, but definitely not least, I completed my Cosmos Fields Shawl. I proof read this amazing pattern for Zelna of Zooty Owl's Crafty Blog a few months ago, but hadn't gotten around to actually making it!

I used some of my precious Stylecraft Special DK, and it was just a dream to work with. My Ravelry Projects Page has all the details on colours and yardage :)

The colours remind me of photos of the lavender fields of Provence in France - purples, blues of the sky... It is so warm and cosy too, and very large! It measures 218cm (85") across and 108cm (42") long.

This is for a birthday present - I hope the intended recipient likes it, and it keeps her nice and warm in her chilly office :)

That's all for Triple Ta-Dah Tuesday!
