Free Pattern: Show your Stripes Beanie

Hi there!

Over the christmas/winter break a beanie idea sprung into my mind. The result you can find here! The Show your Stripes Beanie!

I have put three versions of the Beanie below: 0-6 months, 6-12 months and toddler size. I tested all the sizes but it really depends on how loose or tight you crochet.

If you think that something is really off with the sizes, please drop me a note, so that I can see to it and possible fix it! Thank you!

If you scroll down, there is a tiny picture tutorial. I didn't want to put it in-between the patterns as some of you might want to print the pattern.

Pattern: Show your Stripes Beanie

You need:

- Yarn Color A (Aran)
- Yarn Color B (Aran)

New Beanies for the Winter

Hello all!

Thank you all for your wonderful comments and likes! Welcome to all new followers on Bloglovin, Google and Facebook! :-) We feel very loved and are very happy with every single new comment and follower.

Winter arrived in Germany. This morning my car was iced and the temperatures dropped. I am quite happy with that (except for the de-icing the car) because I like winter. I hope it will snow sometime soon...

My little sister ordered a beanie for the winter. And as the nice big sister I am, I promised to make her one soonish. Of course that meant ordering new yarn. After all I only had hundreds of yarn balls at home and none of them was right. Do you know that feeling? Anyway, there are certainly worse things than ordering yarn.

I got several balls of Katia Maxi Merino (55 % Merino, 45 % Acrylic) and am quite happy with it. It's soft and squishy and easy to work with. The yarn was ordered online at Wollplatz and it arrived within 24 hours - lucky me! :)

However, I wasn't quite as lucky with the pattern I bought. It's the "Mini Shells Slouchy Hat" and can be found on Ravelry. The pattern calls for chunky yarn and a 6-6,5mm and a 8 mm hook which I used. Unfortunately the adult version didn't turn out very large and thus I had to frog the whole thing :( You wonder why this happened? Well, I used the 6,5mm hook to start with instead the 8mm. Sighs. Should have read better. There is German phrase which translates to "Those who can read have a clear advantage". I reckon that fits quite well :P

So I started a second one. Instead of using the 8mm (seemed to big for my yarn), I changed the beginning. Instead of 5 starting rows, I went with 6. Plus I increased to 60 st instead of 54. Oh and I used the 6,5 mm all way through til the border (then used a 5,5 mm).

My sister is happy with the beanie! Yay!

As mentioned before, I have several more balls of the yarn. Thus I decided to make myself a beanie too. I started with the 8mm hook but I didn't like it. As the pattern increases fast, there were huge holes between the stiches. Not my cup of tea, so I went back to the modified version. As a result the stitch patterns are a lot smaller than in the original pattern but I am fine with that.

What are you working on at the moment?

Take care
Anne

P.S. I am sorry for the quality of the pics. I do know of course one should always take pics in broad daylight. Well... I usually get home around 4.30 pm-ish which means it is as good as dark here in Germany! I promise to take some better pictures soonish. :-)

MUSTER: Doppellagige Mütze / Wendemütze

Muster: Doppellagige Mütze / Wendemütze

Wolle: Dicke Wolle für die Nadelstärke 6mm (2 colours, 100 grams each)
Häkelnadel: 6 mm
Größe: Erwachsene Frau

Notizen:

Reihe 6-13: 2LM, 1 Stb in jede Masche. (50)

Überprüfe, ob die Mütze die gewünschte Länge hat. Falls nicht, häkle eine Extrareihe mit 1Stb in jede Masche.

Reihe 14: 1LM, 1fM in jede Masche (50)

Wechsle die Farbe.

Reihe 15: 1LM, 1fM in jede Masche (50)

Reihe 16-23: 2LM, 1 Stb in jede Masche. (50)

Reihe 24: 2LM, *2Stb zusammen abmaschen, 3 Stb* wiederhole diese Sequenz 10 Mal. (40)

Reihe 25: 2LM, *2Stb zusammen abmaschen, 2 Stb* wiederhole diese Sequenz 10 Mal. (30)

Reihe 26: 2LM, *2Stb zusammen abmaschen, 1 Stb* wiederhole diese Sequenz 10 Mal. (20)

Reihe 27: 2LM, *2Stb zusammen abmaschen* wiederhole diese Sequenz 10 Mal (10)

Reihe 28:  2LM, *2Stb zusammen abmaschen* wiederhole diese Sequenz 10 Mal (5)

Reihe 29: 2LM, 3Stb zusammen abmaschen, 2Stb zusammen abmaschen (2)

Modifikation 3: Benutze verschiedene Garne.

PATTERN: Reversible Beanie / Double Layered Beanie

Hello you lot!

Winter can be cold in Germany... Plus we are planning a holiday in Stockholm/Sweden this winter. None of my existing beanies are really warm and I freeze easily, so I had to come up with a warmer solution. The result is this double layered beanie which is not only warm but can also be worn both ways. That is, I can choose the colour of my beanie every time I wear it. Clever, ey?

I am very happy with my beanie and thus I decided to pass my happiness on in the form of a pattern.

Pattern: Double Layered Beanie

Yarn: Chunky (2 colours, 100 grams each)
Hook: 6 mm
Fits: Adult Woman

Note: I recommend you check if the width and lengths works for you while you go. There is a fair chance you might need to adapt it to fit you. There are notes in the pattern when to check and how to adapt it.  The original beanie fits me snuggly but it seems, I have a small head :P

Notes:
- This beanie is worked in rows and not in spirals!
- The ch2 at the beginning of each row do not count as a st. They are a bit of a filler really as they prevent that ugly hole at the end of each row.

Rd 1:Start with a magic circle. In the magic circle: Ch2, 10dc. Pull the magic circle tight (Note: Weave in the yarn end before you change colour). Join the round with a sl in the top of the first dc (not the ch2!). (10)
Rd 2: Ch2, 2dc in the first st. 2dc in each of the remaining 9 st. Join the round with a sl in the top of the first dc. (20)
Rd 3: Ch2, *2dc, 1dc* repeat this pattern 10 times til the end of the row.  Join the round with a sl in the top of the first dc. (30)
Rd 4:  Ch2, *2dc, 1dc in each of next 2st* repeat this pattern 10 times til the end of the row.  Join the round with a sl in the top of the first dc. (40)

Rd 5: Ch2, *2dc, 1dc in each of next 3st* repeat this pattern 10 times til the end of the row.  Join the round with a sl in the top of the first dc. (50)

Note: Test if the beanie has the desired width. If it is too narrow, add one or more extra increase rows.

Rd 6-13: Ch2, 1dc in each st. (50)

Note: Test if the beanie has the desired length. If it is too short, add an extra rd of 1dc in each st.

Rd 14: ch1, 1 sc in each st. (50)

Change colour

Rd 15: ch1, 1 sc in each st. (50)

Rd. 16-23: Ch2, 1dc in each st. (50)
Rd. 24: Ch2, *2dctog, dc in next 3st* repeat this pattern 10 times. (40)
Rd 25: Ch2, *2dctog, dc in next 2 st* repeat this pattern 10 times. (30)
Rd 26:  Ch2, *2dctog, 1dc* repeat this pattern 10 times. (20).
Rd 27: Ch2, *2dctog* repeat this pattern 10 times (10).
Rd 28: Ch2, *2dctog* repeat this pattern 10 times (5).
Rd 29: Ch2, 3dctog, 2dctog (2).
Fasten off.
With the yarn end, sew a "x" on over the hole of the remaining 2 st.

Fold in the beanie so that the colour you prefer is on the outside.

I only wrote out the woman adult version. However as this pattern is really easy/basic, it is easy to modify:

Modification 1: Make it larger. Start with 12 dc instead of 10dc.

Modification 2: Make it smaller. Start with 8 dc instead of 10dc.

Modification 3: Use different yarn weights. I tried this pattern with 2 strains of aran (Red Heart Super Saver) and a 6mm hook. It is a snug fit (thus a tad bit smaller than with chunky yarn).

Modification 4: Make it more colourful! Simply change colours throughout the pattern.

Modification 5: Make it more fancy! Add appliqués like stars, flowers, pompoms etc. Note: You won't be able to turn the beanie anymore unless you make these appliqués removable.

If you make a beanie with this pattern, I would love to see it! Post it on our facebook page?!

You have permission to sell the finished product made from this pattern provided credit for the pattern is clearly displayed as Anne Schueler (http://crochetbetweentwoworlds.blogspot.de).
