A Weekend Away: Amsterdam

Good Morning!

Again, no post about new crochet things from me (gasp!). I spent the weekend away and didn't take any yarn with me. I know, I know. Crazy lady.

Last Thursday we drove to Amsterdam/The Netherlands. The weekend away in Amsterdam was my birthday present to the boyfriend. The Rijkmuseum was holding an exhibition about the painting from Rembrandt (his later years). As my boyfriend likes the art, going there was part of the present. :)

We were lucky and the Friday was really sunny and warm (the other days not so much, but hey, it is the end of April - one nice, warm sunny day is more than to expect!). So, lots of walking all over the city! I love how the flowers were blooming and the sun sparkled in the town canals!

On Saturday we went to see a local market with lots of organic fruits, veggies and bread. Oh my! I wish we had a market like that over here! Not only did the veggies look so yummy (and ripe), the prices were good too! It can be tough to get ripe fruit and veggies here in Germany which is such a pity. Somehow it seems, Germans prefer unripe things...

I managed to spot some crochet works all over the town! :) Soo nice to see some yarn-y works! The little crochet dolls were sold at the Rijkmuseum shop. I didn't take a photo of the label but they were made somewhere in Asia by local women as part of supporting their family.

Have you been to Amsterdam yet? I am sure I will return at some point. It really isn't far away from Dortmund. Only about 2 1/2 hours (if there is no traffic jam like last Thursday)!

Take care
Anne

  6. I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday. Love those crocheted windmills! I've been to Amsterdam once - must be 13 or 14 years ago. I went with my sons and all they wanted to see was the Amsterdam Arena.

  9. Beautiful photos Anne! I always love your camera skills but these are some of your best, the birds and flowers are stunning! :) I'm so keen to go back there in the spring, I miss my favourite city and have only seen it in summer and autumn. I am constantly amazed by and envious of how accessible everything in Europe is. I wish I could drive to Amsterdam! And I love those little crocheted windmills, so cute!

What a lovely birthday present idea :) Did the bf enjoy his weekend? I didn't go to the Rijksmuseum when I was there but I did go to the RembrandtHuis. I really enjoyed because it was not just about his art but also his life - so if he likes Rembrandt maybe you can visit it next time!

Which market did you go to? We sometimes have to buy groceries that are too ripe so they go bad before we're ready to eat it. I wonder if Germans prefer unripe fruit and veg to prevent waste?

  10. Hi Anne,
you pictures of Amsterdam are just fabulous. We often go th the Netherlands but I have never been to Amsterdam. I should really go there soon. We'll leave for London next Sunday and I am very much looking forward to it. Take care of yourself. Viola

  11. Yes, I have been to Amsterdam and Holland is blooming beautiful in the spring. You picked the right time to go. Amsterdam is a major hub for fresh produce distribution and has one of the largest import/export fruit & vegetable markets in Europe. Is that the one you visited or a community market?
