Finally Finished... Tuesday?

It's been a wet few days in Sydney! We are just never happy here - either it buckets down with rain and we complain about the wet, or it doesn't rain for days on end and we complain about everything being too dry :P

I know it's only Tuesday, but I have been trying to clear up my WIP (works in progress) pile and fiiiiiiinally have a stack of things to show off :)

My dragon is finished! Isn't he adorable??

Plus, I managed to finish my Stained Glass Afghan last night! I used JulieAnny's Stained Glass Afghan Square pattern for the pieces, joined them with double crochet in aqua (single crochet for any American readers), and then edged it with a dc row of aqua and then back-loop-only trebles in black, to make the aqua row stand out. I'm really happy with how it came out! Plus it is so thick and warm :)

The sun came out for just a few minutes today, especially for me to take photos for you!

All my scarf orders are up to date (so if you want to order one, now is the time). I am also experimenting with more colour options, including this one called Jewel Mix:

Isn't it dramatic?

  1. Wow! That stained glass window blanket is spectacular. I love the saturated colours that you have chosen.

It looks like today is the day of the dragons. Just before visiting your blog, I was viewing the same dragon pattern in a different colour scheme on Woolbunnies' blog: http://www.woolbunnies.com/?p=593
It is interesting to see variations of the same thing. Do you think we should put a tip on the Dragons to win the footy this weekend?

Finally, regarding colour variations that Jewel mix will brighten even the dullest winter days.

Congratulations on finishing your large blanket and have fun with the scarves.

    1. The colours in the stained glass afghan aren't particularly bright or strong by themselves - it's something about this pattern that has made them really come into their own!

My mum wanted me to do the dragon exactly like on the pattern (and on the Woolbunnies blog), but I don't trust myself to do different colour pieces without mapping it out first. Maybe one day! For the moment I do really like the blue stars :)

    1. It's Moda Vera Fayette, which is an Australian Spotlight brand, made in Turkey. If you want I could try and send a few balls your way?

Also, I absolutely adore this pattern - so easy, straightforward and brilliantly comfortable and warm!

    1. Thanks Helen :) I was really pleased how the blanket all came together, the colours were brighter together than they were separately!

  6. Hello, I found your blog via Attic24. I love your Dragon and the stained glass blanket really looks like stained glass. It was so fun to read your blog posts about Canada. I'm from Seattle and now live in sunny southern California and how I long for the Pacific northwest. Your pictures brought back such lovely memories of our visits to Vancouver and Vancouver Island.

  8. Hi,

I've just popped over from BunnyMummy's blog. It's a great idea for the two of you to share this blog, I've only had a quick look but I love the corner to corner blanket and stained glass blanket! I'll have a proper look through soon!

  10. Hi! I LOVE your stained glass afghan (also the new yarn colors you're experimenting with--I love bright colors!). Quick question: on the afghan, it looks like you filled the centers of the stained glass squares with a colorful variegated yarn, then outlined in black. Can you tell me what yarn you used for the center of the squares? It's really pretty and looks perfect for a stained glass afghan.

    1. Hi Beth! Thank you so much!

The yarn is a Spotlight own brand - Moda Vera Marvel Printed 8 ply (100% acrylic), but I have absolutely no idea what the colourway is as I used it all up in this project! I think any bright, multi-coloured yarn with short variegations would give you much the same effect :)
